Pull up a Chair, Stay Awhile

Opened in August 2014, Poseidon Brewing Co. has made its mark as one sea-riously popular watering hole. In short order, we’ve grown both the size of our brewery and beer menu…a testimony to great demand and the entrepreneurial innovation backing it.

No doubt about it, the proof is in our pints…and why our modest brew house is now a reputable port-o-call. It’s where people go to experience Ventura’s commercial craft-brew industry.

So come with friends. With family. Your dog. Or on your own. While beer tasting in Ventura, kick back and find yourself both at home and at ease. At Poseidon Brewing Co., you’re part of our crew!

Malt forward, balanced, bready/floral >>> For our very first Lager beer, we brewed the highly drinkable German-style Helles. We used 2 German malts along with Hallertau hops to bring you Liberty Card Lager. With a touch of malt sweetness that balances the spicy floral German hop flavors and light bitterness, this is a beer for beer lovers. And take note, you’ll want to make sure you have your liberty card in hand because you can’t drink just one, especially on a hot day!

Hop forward, bitter, earthy/citrus/stone fruit >>> We used generous amounts of Amarillo and Columbus hops from the boil straight through to the second dry hop, loading this juicy India Pale Ale with earthy, citrus and stone fruit aromas and flavors. And we kept the grain bill light, including 2-Row and White Wheat, to really let the hops shine through. Hop forward, slightly dank and with a lingering bitterness, Hyperbaric definitely lives up to its name!

India Pale Ale Brewed with Pink Boots Hop Blend >>> Hop forward, balanced, bubblegum/citrus/pine/tropical >>> For this India Pale Ale, we brewed with one malt – American 2-row barley – and one hop – Pink Boots Blend. Pale yellow in color, this beer showcases crisp, clean malt flavors and approachable hop nuances. Yakima Chief Hops blended five hop varieties, including HBC 630, Idaho Gem®, Loral®, Talus® and Triumph, that were chosen by Pink Boots Society members, into one hop pellet, and the result is a hop that has bubblegum, citrus, pine and tropical aromatic qualities. Brewed on March 8, International Women’s Day, this beer is smooth with a clean yet assertive hop bitterness on the finish, and celebrates women in the beer industry!

Hop forward, bitter, pine/floral >>> We used abundant amounts of Centennial hops during the boil of Dive! Dive! Dive!, providing a bitter citrus hoppiness with each sip. We then dry-hopped this American India Pale Ale with Chinook and Centennial hops, not once, but twice. Chinook provides grapefruit, spice and pine aromas, while Centennial introduces lemon and floral notes on the nose. One of the hoppiest beers we’ve brewed to date, this beer is not for the faint of heart.

Double India Pale Ale; Hop forward, bitter, tropical fruit/tangerines >>> For this Double IPA, we focused on extracting as much hop flavor as possible without extracting excessive hop bitterness. We used over three pounds per barrel of Columbus, Cascade, Centennial and Mosaic hops. We kept the water profile free of minerals to deceptively decrease bitterness and soften the mouth feel. With hop aromas of mangoes, guavas and tangerines, Dirty Diver is sure to satisfy your craving for hops!

Stout - Irish Dry
|
4.6%
Roast malt forward, balanced, coffee/chocolate >>> Named after the nautical work song with Irish roots dating back to the 1800s and sung by sailors onboard ships to create a sense of community and shared purpose, Sea Shanty Irish-Style Stout was brewed to celebrate the McGrath family’s long and lasting history in Ventura. The McGrath’s great-great-grandfather fled Ireland during the Great Potato famine in the early 1850s to emigrate to America to farm, eventually settling in Ventura County. A deep rich earthy black in color, this beer drinks smooth, finishes dry, and has rich aromas of coffee with hints of toffee while the roast flavor shines through with notes of bittersweet chocolate. Best enjoyed while humming a catchy tune, hint, hint: “What will we do with a drunken sailor?”!

Barleywine - Other
|
10.3%
Hop forward, bitter, caramel/resiny >>> All throughout our owner’s naval career, he had these sayings (hundreds of them really!), all collectively referred to as Ollyisms. And one of his most used was “I’m going 100 miles an hour, bullet holes and duct tape.” So it seemed fitting to name this beer, which he’s been wanting to brew since we basically opened, "Bullet Holes and Duct Tape Barleywine" because it's just got a lot going on. This beer is full bodied, hugely malty, assertively bitter, slightly sweet and has a hint alcohol warmth to it as well. You’ll get notes of caramel, toffee and dried fruit on the nose, which carry over to the flavor profile, pair well with the molasses and malt flavors, and round out the strong resiny hop finish on what only can be described as a sippin’ beer.

Schwarzbier

German-Style Black Lager; Malt forward, balanced, coffee/toast/caramel >>> We brewed a Schwarzbier, what may be the oldest continuously brewed beer style in the world. It literally means “black beer” in German. Brewed with all German grains and hops, this black lager balances smooth roasted malt flavors with moderate hop bitterness. Each sip will remind you of drinking a pilsner but with notes of coffee and toast, and hints of caramel. We dare you to enjoy a couple and then say Snorkeling Schwarzbier five times fast!

Poseidon Brewing has made multiple “pivots” to ensure its crew and customers feel both safe and comfortable. While we won’t police every customer or situation, we adhere to local, state and federal health and safety policies around mask wearing, social distancing, hygiene and respect.

Also, to all those in the beer industry, we offer a 15% discount on Tuesday nights with proof of ID in the form of a current paystub or schedule to verify you’re legit. We are a dog-friendly tasting room as long as your dog is friendly. Please follow these “Tasting Room Dog Etiquette Rules”: Dogs must be kept on a leash and within reach of their owner at all times. Avoid the “Three Bs”: Begging, Barking, and Biting. Please don’t allow your dog, even if it’s a small one, on our chairs, couches, tables, or the bar.

Depends on the day. Check out our Calendar of Events to see the food truck schedule. Keep in mind, you’re also welcome to bring your own food and enjoy that snack or meal as well.

We happily sell and fill Poseidon Brewing Co. growlers. We also fill generic clean ones in legally approved sizes (32 and/or 64 ounces) only. If you bring in another brewery’s growler, respectfully cover identifying artwork with shrink wrap, painter’s tape, or another material, so your growler looks, well, truly generic. Curious about the California Craft Brewing Association’s growler filling guidelines? Click here.

Also, please make sure your growler is clean when you bring it in for a fill. While we’ll give it a quick wash and sanitize before refilling it, we are not able to clean and fill those that have become super funky, i.e. growing 3-dimensional mold inside.
